What Is Canva Flux Kontext?
Canva Flux Kontext is a browser tool around Flux Kontext, a model built to follow visual context. In Image to Image mode you upload a reference (JPG, PNG, GIF, or WEBP) and write what should change. In Text to Image mode you skip the file and generate a new still from the prompt alone. Both paths are queued on this page.

How Canva Flux Kontext Works
Choose Text to Image or Image to Image. For image-to-image, upload a reference up to 10MB. Write a prompt, pick an aspect ratio (1:1, 3:2, 2:3, 9:16, 16:9, 3:4, or 4:3), complete the security check, and click Generate Image. The job is queued; preview and download when Flux Kontext finishes.
Image-to-image requires a file. Text-to-image hides the upload. If you switch modes, check that the prompt still matches the job: “keep her coat, change the street to night rain” needs a photo; “a red bicycle in fog” does not.
Image-to-Image Instructions That Stick
Say what to preserve and what to replace in the same sentence. “Same person and pose, replace the office with a greenhouse, cooler daylight” is a Flux Kontext-style instruction. “Make it better” is not. Canva Flux Kontext follows explicit keep/change language more reliably than a vibe-only prompt.
Use a sharp reference. Tiny faces, heavy JPEG blocks, or five subjects fighting for the frame make context harder to hold. Crop to the subject you care about. You must have the right to edit that photo.
Text-to-Image When You Have No File
Switch to text-to-image for a new composition. Write subject, setting, and light the same way you would for any generator, then set the aspect to the destination. Canva Flux Kontext still uses Flux Kontext here; you are just not feeding a source still.
Aspect Ratio & Crops
Pick the ratio before you generate so you are not stretching a square into a story later. 9:16 and 16:9 are the usual social and video frames; 1:1 for feeds; 3:2 / 2:3 / 4:3 / 3:4 for editorial. If you are editing a portrait into a wide banner, say so in the prompt as well as the dropdown so the model can recompose, not just pad.
